    Squirrel Spot
    Squirrel: Friend or Foe

Squirrel Dilemmas: Squirrel problems? We have some suggestions. First, we carry a full line of haven feeders that will thwart most pests. Second, we reccomend offering a “squirrel specific feed” to take away the pressure from your bird feeders. We also recommend the featured feeder below for those who want a tube feeder but not a haven cage addition.

    Featured Solution

Featured Solution: Humane and ingenious, who else but Droll Yankees would have thought of this unique design. Carrying a lifetime warranty and named “Best New Product of 2000” by Birdwatch America, this gem features a weight activated perch and battery operated motor housing.

Once a squirrel makes contact with the perch, the motor activates, spinning the perch and flipping the squirrel. Unit includes rechargeable NiCad batteries and a recharger. Holding 4 quarts of seed and offering 4 feeding ports, it will serve you for a lifetime.

If you opt for another form of feeder and need tips on squirrel protection, you can keep feeders a minimum of eight feet from trees, fences, or any point that they can jump up, down or off. Bear in mind that this will leave your feeders in the open, an option not preferred by the birds.

Consider an alternative feeder which contains squirrel specific feed that they prefer such as corn on the cob and nuts. It’s an alternative more effective than most.

Purchase squirrel baffling equipment for your existing feeders in our birdfeeding section or review our full line of haven feeders that incorporate cages to keep squirrels at bay.

Another alternative is to feed your birds a seed that squirrels do not like, such as Safflower. However, this will limit the type of birds frequenting your feeder to cardinals, doves, chickadees, titmice and house finches.
